Ear Surgery in Las Vegas by Dr. Ebert

Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears.

For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four and 14. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier the surgery, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient.

If you’re considering ear surgery for yourself or your child, this information will give you a basic understanding of the procedure-when it can help, how it’s performed, and what results you can expect. It can’t answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Please be sure to ask Dr. Charles Ebert in Las Vegas if there is anything you don’t understand about the procedure.

Cheek Elevation - Cheek Implants in Phoenix Arizona

Plastic surgeons use facial implants to improve and enhance facial contours. Frequently, these implants will help provide a more harmonious balance to your face and features so that you feel better about the way you look.

Cheek implant surgery usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes. When cheek implants are being placed in conjunction with another cosmetic procedure, such as a facelift, forehead lift or eyelid surgery, the implants may be inserted through the incisions made for those procedures. Otherwise, an incision will be made either inside your upper lip or your lower eyelid. A pocket is then formed and an implant is inserted.

After surgery, a dressing will be applied to minimize discomfort and swelling. The severity and duration of such side effects may vary, especially if another cosmetic procedure was performed at the same time.

If you are considering cheek augmentation in Phoenix Arizona contact cosmetic surgeon Robert Marouk. Facial plastic surgery procedures offered at the Cosmetic Surgical Art Center in Phoenix Arizona include facelift surgery, rhinoplasty, neck lift surgery, blepharoplasty, lip augmentation and ear surgery.

All Surgery Carries Some Uncertainty and Risk
When ear surgery is performed by a qualified, experienced surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor. Nevertheless, as with any operation, there are risks associated with surgery and specific complications associated with this procedure.

A small percentage of patients may develop a blood clot on the ear. It may dissolve naturally or can be drawn out with a needle.

Occasionally, patients develop an infection in the cartilage, which can cause scar tissue to form. Such infections are usually treated with antibiotics; rarely, surgery may be required to drain the infected area.

Face & Neck Lift Surgery in Phoenix Arizona

A facelift (technically known as rhytidectomy) can’t stop this aging process. What it can do is “set back the clock,” improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your face and neck. A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping.

The best candidate for a facelift is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well-defined. Most patients are in their forties to sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on people in their seventies or eighties as well.

A facelift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self- confidence in the process. But it can’t give you a totally different look, nor can it restore the health and vitality of your youth.

All Surgery Carries Some Uncertainty and Risk
When a facelift is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor. Still, individuals vary greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions, and their healing abilities, and the outcome is never completely predictable.

Complications that can occur include hematoma (a collection of blood under the skin that must be removed by the surgeon), injury to the nerves that control facial muscles (usually temporary), infection, and reactions to the anesthesia. Poor healing of the skin is most likely to affect smokers.

You can reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon’s advice both before and after surgery.

The Surgery
A facelift usually takes several hours-or somewhat longer if you’re having more than one procedure done.

Incisions usually begin above the hairline at the temples, extend in a natural line in front of the ear (or just inside the cartilage at the front of the ear), and continue behind the earlobe to the lower scalp.

The skin is separated from the fat and muscle below. Fat may be removed from around the neck and chin to improve the contour. Dr. Marouk then tightens the underlying muscle and membrane, pulls the skin back, and removes the excess. Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions; metal clips may be used on the scalp.

Following surgery, a small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin behind your ear to drain any blood that might collect there. The surgeon may also wrap your head loosely in bandages to minimize bruising and swelling.

If you are considering a facelift in Phoenix Arizona contact cosmetic surgeon Robert Marouk. Facial plastic surgery procedures offered at the Cosmetic Surgical Art Center in Phoenix Arizona include facelift surgery, rhinoplasty, neck lift surgery, blepharoplasty, lip augmentation and ear surgery.

Facelift in Miami’s Aventura Center for Cosmetic Surgery

Miami’s facelift expert, Dr. Sam Gershenbaum, brings state-of-the-art techniques and experience to every facial surgery procedure at our Miami, Florida center, including facelift, brow lift, rhinoplasty, ear reshaping, and more.

A facelift can improve the most visible signs of aging by sculpting and tightening the deeper structures and foundation of the face and neck. As we age, the effects of gravity, sun exposure, weight fluctuations, smoking, heredity, and the daily stresses of life begin to reveal themselves in our faces. Facelift surgery can bring youth back to a patient’s face. In youth, the face is firm and smooth due to good skin elasticity and proper positioning of normal facial fat. As we age, skin elasticity and muscle tone weaken, and facial fat descends, causing prominent skin folds, deep creases between the nose and corner of the mouth. Jowls become prominent along with fat deposits and loose skin in the neck.

A facelift won’t stop this process, but it can “turn back the hands of time.” A facelift (technically referred to as Rhytidectomy) is designed to reduce much of the looseness and many of the heavy wrinkles and folds in the face and neck. It will also improve the contour of the jaw and necklines. A facelift will not, however, completely remove every fold, line, and wrinkle. There is limited improvement around the eyes and with fine lines of the facial skin. A facelift alone will not improve “smoker’s” lines around the mouth, acne scars, or a poor complexion. Other options exist to treat these problems, including laser treatment, dermabrasion, and chemical peels.

At our Miami, Florida center, many facelift procedures are combined with a forehead and brow lift, upper and/or lower eyelid surgery, and “cheekbone” (malar) augmentation. Frequently, chin implants are placed to improve the profile proportions of the jaw line and increase the projection of the chin. These additional procedures may be performed at the same time and in combination with facelift and neck lift surgery or as independent procedures at a later date.

Dr. Windle performs Otoplasty in Seattle

Otoplasty (Cosmetic Ear Surgery) is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of protruding ears or to reduce the size of large ears. It can also help correct ear deformities such as “lop ear,” “cupped ear,” or “shell ear.”

Are you a candidate for an otoplasty?
Otoplasty can be performed on children and adults, however children need to wait until the ears are almost fully grown. This usually occurs by the age of 4 or 5.

What are my risks?
With any operation, there are associated risks. These include infection or a reaction to the anesthesia. A small percentage of patients may develop a blood clot in the ear and this can either dissolve naturally or may need to be aspirated.

Occasionally an infection can occur in the cartilage, which will cause scar tissue to form. These infections can be treated with antibiotics.

What does the consultation consist of?
At your initial consultation, Dr. Windle or Dr. Stroup will evaluate your general health, examine your ears, and explain the procedure to you along with the risks of the procedure. In addition, your doctor will give you different options based on your particular situation.

At this time, your doctor will also discuss with you the types of anesthesia and risks involved, the estimated length of your ear surgery, and what your healing period will be like. Feel free to ask any questions you might have. Dr. Windle and Dr. Stroup want to be sure you have a complete understanding of the information given to you so you can make a decision which is right for you.

After meeting with the doctor you will be offered a computer imaging session, which will help communicate to the doctor the outcome and result you are looking for along with what Dr. Windle or Dr. Stroup thinks is a realistic expectation. Photographs will be taken and altered on the computer screen to give you an idea of what changes you can expect to see as a result of otoplasty.

From that point, you will meet with our financial counselor who will give you the exact price quote for your otoplasty. She will give you the options of the different facilities where you can have your procedure done along with their fees for anesthesia and the use of their facility. We do have a financing company with which we work closely, and if you are interested in this, you will be instructed how to apply for a loan. The criteria for this is about the same as being eligible to take out a car loan. We also accept cash, checks, money orders, VISA, Mastercard, or Discover.

Dr. Geoffrey Keyes offers Ear Surgery in Los Angeles

Introduction:
Ear surgery or otoplasty is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, so the operation is done on children between ages of four and fourteen. Ear surgery is also possible in adults with fewer risks. You have to be clear about what and how you want your ear to be when you talk to the doctor.

Risks involved:
* When a qualified and experienced surgeon performs the ear surgery, the complications and risks involved are usually minor.
* Patients may develop a blood clot on the ear. It can dissolve naturally or drawn out with a needle.
* Patient may develop an infection in the cartilage, which can cause sear tissue to form.

Planning for surgery:
The surgeon will evaluate the patient’s condition and recommend the most effective technique specific instructions will be given on how to prepare for the surgery. If the child is young, the surgery is performed on general anesthesia, so the child will sleep through the operation. For older children or adults, the ear surgery may be performed by using local anesthesia combined with a sedative. The child will be awake and relaxed.

The surgery:
The surgery usually takes two or three hours, the technique depends on the problem. In one of the more common techniques, the surgeon makes a small incision in the back of the car to expose the car cartilage. Then the surgeon will sculpt the cartilage and bend it back towards the head. The stitches which are non removable may be used to help maintain the new shape. Some times as large piece of the cartilage is removed to give a more natural looking fold, when the surgery is complete. In another technique, a similar incision is made in the back of the ear. Skin is removed and stitches are used to fold the cartilage back on itself to reshape the ear without removing cartilage. The surgery will leave a faint sear in the back of the ear, which will fade with time.

Recovery:
The patients is usually up and around within a few hours of surgery. If you prefer you may stay overnight in the hospital until all the effects of general anesthesia wear off. To promote best molding and healing, the patients head is wrapped in a bulky bondage. The pain in the ear can be relived by medication. Within a few days the bulky bandage will be replaced by a lighter dressing similar to a headband. The dressing should be worn day and night stitches will be removed or will dissolve in about a week. For about a month, avoid any activity which will make your ear bend. Adults can go back to work in five days. Children can go back to school after a week. Most patients are satisfied with the results of ear surgery. Be realistic in your goals and don’t expect a perfect symmetric in both ears. The goal of the surgery is improvement not perfection.

Ear Surgery in Beverly Hills

Background
Many infants are born with larger than average ears. Their ears may lack some of the definition and folds that characterize a “normal” ear. In certain cases, the ear can be convoluted or folded on itself. As the infant grows, the ear abnormality will only become more noticeable. As much as plastic surgeons would like to correct the large or deformed ear at a younger age, the ears just have not developed sufficiently. If we intervene too soon, the abnormal ear will continue to change too much after surgery, making results unpredictable. Surgical options for correction of such ear abnormalities are therefore typically performed at age 6-7. By 6–7 years old, the ears will have achieved 80% of their growth. It is also a special milestone for the children as they will be entering school at that age. Many people wait until adulthood to pursue surgical correction of their ears. The treatment is essentially the same regardless of your age. For ear surgery in Beverly Hills by a board certified plastic surgeon contact us today.

Procedure
Based on the appearance of the abnormal ear several treatment options are present. Surgical procedures involve pinning back the ears with special sutures, sculpting the ear cartilage to give it the necessary detail and size, or placing sutures within the cartilage to give it the folds and grooves which characterize a “normal” ear. All of these procedures can be performed either under light or full general anesthesia. A thin plastic drain is placed inside the wound to collect any oozing which might occur after surgery. A special bandage is also placed on the ear to apply even pressure, thereby minimizing any risk of oozing.

After the Surgery
After surgery, the head should be maintained in an elevated position. You can eat any type of food you wish after surgery. Light ice compresses can be applied over the ear. The plastic drain is typically removed 3-5 days after the procedure. Most of the swelling is gone in two weeks, but the nice definition and form of the ear may not be appreciated for four to six weeks. Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Sayah will see you regularly in the office to assure that you are healing well and to answer any questions you may have. For ear surgery in Beverly Hills by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Sayah, contact us today.
